Metro Transit named 2016 System of the Year
With two light-rail lines, more than 100 bus routes and a commuter rail line, the Twin Cities region is more connected than ever. Improvements in the regional transit network have had a profound effect, creating communities that are more equitable, economically competitive and sustainable.
As Minnesota's largest transportation provider, Metro Transit has been at the forefront of these improvements.
Industry peers have noticed: the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has named Metro Transit the recipient of its 2016 Outstanding Public Transportation System Achievement Award, or System of the Year. The award was presented at the organization’s Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, Calif., in September.
The System of the Year award follows the successful opening the the METRO Green Line, record ridership and recent improvements in a range of areas, including safety, vehicle and facilities maintenance and operations. Metro Transit earned top honors among North American transit agencies that provide more than 20 million rides annually.
Metro Transit celebrated this recognition with customers and employees at an event at Target Field Station in late September.
