1917 24th Street East, Minneapolis
Description: Metro Transit’s Light Rail Support Facility is located immediately east of the METRO Blue Line, between the Franklin Avenue and Lake Street stations. Opened in 2011, the facility serves as a base for all staff members responsible for maintenance within the light rail right of way. Track, signal, communications and traction power departments that operate out of the facility were previously based at the Light Rail Operations & Maintenance Facility. Staff at the Light Rail Support Facility work to ensure the integrity and good repair of the track, and to ensure that gate crossings, signals, overhead power lines, power substations and other equipment used to safely manage train movements are functioning properly.
The building includes offices, locker rooms, storage bays, a machine shop and an inventory of more than 12,000 parts. Equipment and staff for the METRO Green Line are also housed at the facility. In 2013, a 40-kilowatt solar array was added to the building's rooftop. See the solar array's real-time performance
