Metro Transit’s Fred T. Heywood Office Building is located at 560 Sixth Avenue North, on the north end of downtown Minneapolis, at the corner of North 7th Street and Olson Memorial Highway. The Heywood Garage opened in 1984, replacing the Northside Garage, which was located on Washington Avenue in the North Loop.
More than 250 are buses are stored, cleaned and maintained at Heywood Garage, including a large number of hybrids. Because of its easy access to Interstate 94, Heywood buses are frequently used on express services.
In addition to the garage, Heywood is home to Metro Transit's Customer Relations and Lost & Found departments. Support staff work in the office building, which also includes the Transit Information Center.
There are several ways to reach Heywood by transit. The METRO Blue and Green lines, as well as the Northstar Commuter Rail Line, serve nearby Target Field Station. Routes 5, 19 and 22 can also be used to reach Heywood. Visitor parking is available in the Blue Lot on North Sixth Avenue.
