East Metro Transit Facility

820 L’Orient Street, St. Paul

The East Metro Transit Facility opened in 2001, replacing the Snelling Bus Garage, at Interstate 94 and Snelling Avenue in St. Paul. The facility is located east of Interstate 35E about one mile north of downtown St. Paul. After reconstruction of I-35E is complete, buses will have direct interstate access. The garage houses a fleet of more than 200 hybrid and diesel-fueled buses, including 40-foot, articulated and coach models. Buses are stored, cleaned, maintained and fueled at the garage. East Metro Transit Facility is Metro Transit’s most energy-efficient garage. All heating, cooling and electricity use is carefully monitored and controlled by computer.

Staff: Nearly 400 drivers and 90 mechanics.

Routes: More than 30 primarily east-metro routes run out of the East Metro Transit Facility, including several shared routes that operate between St. Paul and Minneapolis such as routes 16, 21 and 94.
