Description: Built in 2009, the Commuter Rail Operations & Maintenance Facility serves the Northstar Commuter Rail Line which runs 40 miles between Minneapolis and Big Lake. The facility is located just east of Northstar's Big Lake Station at Highway 10 and County Road 43. There are approximately 30 employees at the facility, including administrators, mechanics and support staff. Northstar's 19 train cars and six locomotives are washed, inspected and serviced at the facility. There is indoor storage for up to 2 locomotives and five train cars. The remainder of the fleet is stored on outdoor tracks.
